The Cricket Refurb

The Cricket Refurb

Following much graft, expertise and teamwork we are pleased and proud to let you know that The Cricket Inn will re-open on Sunday 12th March and normal service resumed.

In case you didn’t know we have been closed this week to install a new kitchen, bar and refurb the entire restaurant.

A note from Richard Smith:
“I wanted to offer something innovative and unusual at The Cricket, so I’ve included a (BIG) Bertha oven in the kitchen design. It is an indoor charcoal fired oven that can offer amazing flavour and a new dimension to our menu. It is British made, Sheffield steel of course, and I’m thrilled with the result”

Please call our management team to reserve a table 0114 2365256

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Waitrose Kitchen Magazine: The Cricket Inn

We are delighted to have been featured in the recent edition of Waitrose Kitchen!

Our article can be read below:

"With rolling fields behind and the smooth grass of the local cricket pitch at hand, this 19th-century farmhouse-turned-pub is hugely popular with locals and day-trippers alike.

Outside tables overlooking the green spill over on sunny days, as happy punters feast on no-nonsense pub food such as steak and Thornbridge ale pie, as well as slightly more unexpected dishes (until you discover a Portuguese contingent in the kitchen) such as Cataplana - Algarve-style fish and shellfish broth - or Cozido, a rustic ragout of ham hock, chorizo and pork belly.

Smoked meats and fish come from the in-house smoker and there's a solid line-up of hearty sandwiches (don't miss the steak with Hartington blue cheese, onion jam and bacon), plus summer barbecues. Local sourcing and award-winning Thornbridge ales make for a grand afternoon."

The Times ‘Alfresco Britain: 50 Best Summer Pubs'

We are delighted to have been included in the The Times' '50 Best Summer Pubs', particularly at number 3 on their list!

The article can be seen here, but if you don't have an online subscription to The Times you will be unable to read the full article, but here is what they had to say about us:

The Cricket Inn, Sheffield
Collect a hamper from the bar of this village pub in Totley on the edge of the Peak District and dine alfresco on home-smoked crackling, sticky glazed chicken wings and salt’n’pepper squid in the beer garden. The added bonus is a front-row seat for the cricket match on the adjoining field. If there’s no game, compensation comes in the form of a barbecue feast including hickory-smoked chicken and excellent Thornbridge brewery beers.

Recognition Always Welcome!

Recognition Always Welcome!

It's always fantastic when your place gets some recognition - great for the staff too, and it usually brings in some new customers and reminds our regulars that they are making the right choice.

With the summer upon us and the Ashes in full swing, the Cricket Inn is very much for the now.
The Sunday Times and the Waitrose Food Magazine have recently featured some fantastic articles about great pubs, with the very best settings and locations, and to be a focus of these certainly made us all very happy, and proud to read what was said about us.
